Besties (2025)

In collaboration with Tuvalu media and BNNVARA I created a new Dutch webseries called Besties about two best friends. The ten-part youth series tells a raw, funny and moving coming-of-age story about best friends Liselot (“Lilo”) and Soraya (“Raay”). They are convinced that nothing can break their bond—until they hit secondary school. Different academic levels, new classmates, misunderstandings and temptations put their friendship under pressure. The girls slowly grow apart. The series shows how painful and hilarious growing up can be, and poses the question: do true besties always find their way back to each other?

When Lilo and Raay go to different secondary schools—Lilo to vmbo and Raay to vwo—their worlds drift further and further apart. We see how they try to hold on to their bond: from embarrassing sports days to going vegan and dumpster-diving for love, and from fights and misunderstandings to maybe even a first kiss. Each episode zooms in on a new chapter in their friendship. Besties can be seen from December 1 2025 every Monday at 17:00 on NPO Zapp’s YouTube channel and on NPO Start.
